In the last few years, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed various AR applications for entertainment (games), interior design and construction, as well as application at production sites.
Today we see most of these applications, originally developed for high-end PC hardware and dataglasses, implemented on inexpensive and powerful mobile devices such as tablet PCs and camera phones. A special requirement in implementing generally applicable mobile AR solutions is the use of motion/feature tracking instead of marker based solutions.
Geo-context information available with Google Earth offers completely new kinds of possibilities for mobile AR. In summary, the long expected AR "killer applications" may now be waiting just around the corner.
